Some Odds, Ends, and History

Post by LeonardRachiele »

Here are some questions about requests:

Week 15 1991 Eagles at home with Dallas
The Cowboys came into Veterans Stadium with both teams having 9-5 record. In that memorable defensive game, the Eagles won 24 to 0 at Dallas in Sep. After a dismal October, Philadelphia had won six games in a row. Steve Buerline was starting because young Troy was injured. What happened to our defense that hurtful day? Just one sack for seven yards and no turnovers.

Week 11 1964 Steelers at New York Giants
The Steelers won 44 to 17. CBS telecasted the game Pittsburgh on Channel 2. The following Friday WTAE telecasted a half hour version from NFL Films on Thursday or Friday, I cannot remember which. It was strictly a local telecast. Up to that time, it was the third highest score in Team history and a high for Buddy Parker in his eight years at Pittsburgh. Does anyone have this game from either source?

1:00 am - Movie - "Sunday Punch" (1942)

Maybe they snuck the NFL Films bit into that slot between the end of the Bills/Chargers game and Sea Hunt? Maybe as a filler to get them to the bottom of the hour, not knowing exactly how long the game would run? (Games took far less time in 1964 than they do today, obviously.)

And NFL Films wasn't NFL Films until 1965, when they bought Ed Sabol's Blair Motion Pictures.

Okay I guess I should have said it was a local film since Ed Conway was the host. I cannot remember weather it was on Wed, Thurs, or Fri but it was one of those days.

The Sabols did film GOTW shows in '64 but they were called "Play By Play Report". The few I've seen were all silent which suggests they might have had the narration added later by a regional broadcaster. Did Ed Conway do the play-by-play? Was it in color? (All the '64 shows were shot in color.)

It could have been Wednesday. I know I got home from school & saw Ed Conway narrating the action.
