First-ever N.F.L. night game

Post by racepug »

Does anybody know if the rosters for the Chicago Cardinals and the Providence Steam Roller have ever been published for the N.F.L.'s first night game on November 6th, 1929? I'm wondering because recent P.F.H.o.F. inductee Fred 'Duke' Slater was a member of the Chicago Cardinals in 1929 and George 'Wildcat' Wilson (named to the All-Time Western All-Star {Collegiate} Team in 1969 and who outplayed Harold 'Red' Grange in a couple of games on the west coast right after 'Red' Grange turned pro) was a member of the Providence Steam Roller that same year and I'd love to find out if they actually played against one another in that game.

I have the newspaper article from the Providence Evening Tribune, but it's too large to post here. According to the article, Slater and Wilson both started. This is the first pro football article I've seen that references gangster Al Capone.
