Garrard "Buster" Ramsey, an offensive right guard and defensive linebacker, played six seasons with the Chicago Cardinals (1946-1951) and helped the Cardinals win the 1947 NFL Championship. As a linebacker, Ramsey nabbed four interceptions during the 1947 championship season. On offense, Ramsey provided pass-blocking for an assortment of quarterbacks, including "Pitchin' Paul" Christman, Ray Mallouf, Jim Hardy, and hall-of-famer Charley Trippi, and he provided run-blocking for running backs Pat Harder, Elmer Angsman, and Trippi. Ramsey was twice named an all-pro. During his final season, Ramsey was also defensive coordinator for the Cardinals. He went on to be a defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions (1952-1959), where he coached the defense to three NFL Championships in 1952, 1953, and 1957, head coach for the Buffalo Bills (1960-1961) in their first two seasons in the American Football League, and defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1962-1964).
