Tommy Hughitt was the quarterback and coach of the strong Buffalo All-Americans teams from 1920 to 1924. As a player, he was fairly average, though he earned an All-Pro selection in 1922. As a coach, Hughitt was much better. He was known as a being fairly progressive, being an early exponent of the forward pass, using man-in-motion and spread formations. In his five seasons as the team's head coach, Hughitt amassed an overall record of 34-15-7 (an astounding .694 pct).
