1984- AFC West vs. NFC East

Post by CSKreager »

The 1984 NFL season had two of the better divisions/division battles ever.

What was the better division, and what was the better divisional race?

First 6 weeks of the '84 season reads like this for the AFC West...

Denver 5-1
LA Raiders 5-1
Seattle 4-2
San Diego 4-2
Kansas City 3-3

Now THAT's frightenley good!

NFC East that year had more (four) above-500 teams, all who were still in the race going into the final week. Just imagine how even-more competitive things may have been down the stretch had Eagles not only won that game in StL (which they lost by 1 pt, dropping them to 5-7-1), but if Jaws don't suffer that injury. That being said, I'll give the nod to the AFC West. Three above-500 teams, but three real STOUT ones each making the playoffs, each better then any of the NFC East teams that year, each one capable of getting to the SB that year (each one more respectable, to me, than Miami); the wind just happened to not blow in the right direction for either one. Plus, the division's two non-winning teams (8-8 KC & 7-9 SD) not shabby at all.
