Saw a link that seemed interesting and, lo and behold, it was.
JR led the nation in average yards per punt return two successive years: 1939 - 20.0 and 1940 - 21.0

There are some other rather familiar names on the list which also shows the total return yardage leaders.

But, here is the best part...
the total return yardage stat was eliminated and no longer recorded after 1969.
Great! a useless piece of data flushed.
