Demmas was an umpire for 29 seasons (1968-1996). He wore no. 78 (from 1979-1981 he wore no. 14) and worked 4 Super Bowls (after the 1978, 1982, 1990 and 1993 seasons) and five conference championship games (including the Freezer Bowl in Cincinnati). He also worked in the "Sea of Hands" divisional playoff game in 1974. Other famous games he worked were the 1979 Rams-Cowboys divisional playoff and the 1993 Miami-Dallas Leon Lett Blunder in snowy Texas Stadium.
