"I don't think Tampon Bay would've worked very well."

You need only attend a game at Steinbrenner Field, George M., that is, formerly Legends Field, and see the display
of Giants and Jets paraphernalia mixed with that of the Yankees and you would get an idea of the number
of New York followers in the area.
However, if the Buccaneers balked at the penetration of their dwindling fan base, just about 90 minutes to the East
they might have used the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl.
Many an NFL star has displayed his talent on this field. such as: Willie Lanier, Cris Collinsworth, and Peyton Manning.

The point you miss is that rather than play in an entirely fan-starved area they might have generated some revenue
where they could sell tickets.
"It was a different game when I played.
When a player made a good play, he didn't jump up and down.
Those kinds of plays were expected."

Here is my list of NFL games that were postponed and played at a later date due to weather and other reasons (such as all the 1982 games due to the player's strike). There are also quite a few games from 1920s and 1930s that were postponed and then later canceled.

mwald wrote:Postponed games in the early days were not that uncommon. Don't have the detail in front of me, but I think a Lions-Dodgers game in 1934 was postponed a day due to weather. I think two games on the same day in 1935 involving Eagles-Redskins and Dodgers-Cardinals were postponed due to heavy rain. I think the 1939 Pro Bowl (played in 1940) was postponed a week. I think the Miami Seahawks' first ever game was postponed due to hurricane.

There are many others.
1935 games were scheduled for November 17th. The Dodgers-Cardinals was postponed and played on November 19th. The Eagles-Redskins games was first postponed and then canceled.

Excellent list. But shouldn't it include all the games that were scheduled for September 16 and 17, 2001? They were all tacked on at the end of the regular season.

The Staley's game with the Canton Bulldogs on 30-Oct-1921 at Wrigley Field was called off because of a "sea of mud" and played on 11-Dec-1921 instead, in wet & muddy conditions.

The Chicago Bears at Chicago Cardinals game at Wrigley Field on 06-Oct-1936 was postponed because of the MLB World Series game 5 between the Cubs and Tigers. The game was played at the end of the season (08-Dec-1936) instead. The two teams also played the week before (01-Dec-1936) at Wrigley Field, a Bears home game.

Baseball also got in the way of the Chicago Bears at Miami Dolphins game at Pro Player Stadium on 26-Oct-1997. The World Series between the Marlins & Indians went to game 7, forcing a MNF double header on 27-Oct-1997.

11/27/1921 Giants v Philadelphia All-Stars, at Ebbets Field canccceled (rain)
12/4/1921 Giants v Cleveland Tigers at Ebbets, canceled (rain)
12/11/1921 Giants v Cleveland Tigers, at Ebbets Field, canceled due to rain

These Giants, the "Brickley Giants, aka 1st NY Giants, vut called locally the Brooklyn Giants for these gaames.
A replacement game 12/11 against the Harway AA of Brooklyn also cancceled due to muddy field at Ebbets.
Only the Cleveland games were APFL

The Giants did play some games in Brooklyn, all non-league, at Ebbets and at Commercial Field.

The Giants and Cleveland did play a game at the Polo Grounds on 12/3. The 12/4 game at Ebbets was advertised. metioned in Brooklyn newspapers and reported as postponed due to a rain storm. Playing two days in a row was not uncommon, for instance, Frankford Yellow Jackets did it often in the 1920s.
