He also could have had Joe Montana, who his scouts wanted but let him go. A great career but not the best with QBs ...
That one I don't understand. He must not have been too awful high on Montana to pick Bob Avellini and Mike Phipps over him.

I feel Finks was sold on Phipps in 1979 no matter what but with Montana's mobility and ability to rally the Irish at the ends of games, you would think Papa Bear Halas himself would want to have him, but like everybody else, they thought Joe was too small to succeed ?
