Your starting team of Super Bowl-era players who never played in one

Post by Citizen »

I restricted it to retired players who started their careers in 1966 or later.

QB: Dan Fouts
RB: Earl Campbell
RB: Eric Dickerson
C: Dermontti Dawson
T: Tony Boselli
T: Willie Roaf
G: Randall McDaniel
G: Tom Mack
TE: Ozzie Newsome
WR: Calvin Johnson
WR: Cris Carter
K: Jason Hanson
KR: Allen Rossum

DE: Lee Roy Selmon
DE: Chris Doleman
DT: Cortez Kennedy
DT: Joe Klecko
OLB: Robert Brazile
OLB: Derrick Thomas
MLB: Tommy Nobis
CB: Lem Barney
CB: Roger Wehrli
S: Kenny Easley
S: Joey Browner
P: Dave Jennings
PR: Eric Metcalf

Head coach? Probably a toss-up between Chuck Knox and Marty Schottenheimer.

Surprised Barry Sanders didn't make the cut. 4 Vikings on that list... you could probably put most players from the 1998 team together and have a pretty good team.

For sure, Sanders could easily have a spot at either RB position. Your mileage may vary!

Very interesting!
I'd have Simpson and Sanders as my starting RBs for sure. Then Campbell and Dickerson on a hypothetical 2nd team. I think I'd have Joe Thomas and Nick Lowery on this team as well instead of Boselli and Hanson. Otherwise great job!

Dermontti Dawson played in SB 30 with the Steelers.

Ah, I figured I'd let at least one ringer slip through. OK, sub Kevin Mawae for Dawson.

Aside from what other people have said....Ken Houston over Joey Browner. Steve Largent over Cris Carter. I'd agree with Lowery, Simpson and Sanders being added. I'd put Winslow over Newsome. John Randle over Klecko. Zach Thomas over Nobis. Billy Johnson as the PR.
