2023 season, Week 6 review

Post by racepug »

1) The Chiefs have gone the Patriots one better (in terms of "current winning streak vs. one team") as they have now beaten DEN 16x in a row (and are unbeaten since their season-opening surprise loss to DET).

2) MIN wins its 2nd game of the season though things might've ended differently had Bears starting QB Justin Fields not had to leave the game early due to injury.

3) SEA's defense plays well enough to deserve a "W" (CIN is held to 214 total yards for the game and to only 3 points in the 2nd half) but the Seahawks' "O" (in particular starting QB Geno Smith and, to a lesser extent, oft-penalized [and somewhat undisciplined] WR D.K. Metcalf) lets the team down badly in their loss to the Bengals.

4) In the battle between the only current N.F.L. franchises that came to the N.F.L. from the A.A.F.C. the Browns end the 49ers' (and Brock Purdy's) win streak at 15 though not w/o some help from the zebras and a little luck (the 49ers' rookie PK missing a make-able FG with seconds left in the game). In addition the 49ers suffer some key injuries (Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey), as well.

5) The Texans continue to exceed expectations as they win their 3rd game out of their last 4 with their win over 'Nawlins' at home.

6) the Dolphins, after giving up the first 14 points of the game, handle (still) winless CAR relatively easily after that.

7) the Lions are 5 - 1 for the first time since 2011 after their road win over the "Creamsicle"-clad Buccaneers.

8) the Patriots fall to the Raiders and are off to their worst start (1 - 5) since 1995.

9) the Jets surprise everybody and get their first-ever win over the PHI 'Iggles' (and knock off the league's last unbeaten team in the process) thanks in no small part to a stout defensive effort and 'Iggles' QB Jalen Hurts key mistakes late in the game.

10) the Rams, down 6 - 9 at the half, come back to comfortably beat the hapless Cardinals at home.

11) the Bills just barely escape against the one-win Los Gigantes de Nueva York (and not w/o some controversy) on Sunday night.

12) the N.F.C. entry based in TX just manages, on Monday night, to avoid going back to TX shouldering a two-game losing streak on the West Coast.
