Bart Oates

Post by RyanChristiansen »

Bart Oates, who played center, played 11 years in the NFL (1985-1995), including nine years with the New York Giants (1985-1993) and two years with the San Francisco 49ers (1994-1995). Oates has three Super Bowl rings, including two with the Giants and one with the 49ers. He was elected to the Pro Bowl five times. During his time in New York and San Francisco, he played on playoff teams during six different seasons. He pass-blocked for Phil Simms, Jeff Hostetler, and Steve Young and run-blocked for Joe Morris, Ottis Anderson, Rodney Hampton, Ricky Watters, and Derek Loville.

According to Pro Football Reference's Approximate Value calculation, no other center had a higher approximate value than Bart Oates during his career. During that span, Oates ranked above Jay Hilgenberg, who is in the Hall of Very Good. See the following link for an explanation of the Approximate Value calculation.

Good write up on Bart Oates. I think has five championship rings in Professional Football - two with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL, two with the Giants, and one with the Forty-Niners.
