Vermeil was similiar to Weeb Ewbank or Bill Parcells in building a team from the ground up but leaving the Eagles and Rams on top may have kept him from reaching the HOF by now. Had he not rehired Martz and had that great 99 season he might have gotten fired but his players responded to his leadership and gave him a championship. I still wonder how his teams might have responded with less of a practice workload but it was normal for teams to be more spartan in their seasonal preparation back then.
