Hugh Taylor HOVG

Post by Brian wolf »

Looking at three underrated but deserving receivers that should be in the HOVG ...

Hugh Taylor of the Redskins from 1947-54. Though he had less catches and yardage than HOF-elect Mac Speedie, had many more TD receptions and averaged over 19 yrds per catch, retiring with 5,233 yrds receiving.

Alyn Beals of the SF 49ers from 1946-1951. Helped SF become an excellent AAFC team despite a short career.
Had 49 TD receptions off, only 214 career catches ...

Elbie Nickel of Pitts Steelers ... enough support already on this site, who was considered not only the last excellent single-wing receiver but also perhaps, the first great NFL tight end who could catch and block.

I've got an ongoing "list of guys I could nominate" and he's on it.
