Three Defensive Linemen

Post by Halas Hall »

Just wondering what people think about these three players' cases for induction into the Hall of the Very Good:

Cedrick Hardman - 49ers, Raiders, Oakland Invaders - may have had over 100 sacks in the NFL.

Charlie Kreuger 49ers - FIFTEEN seasons - long run

Jethro Pugh - Cowboys, Fourteen seasons, mainstay of Doomsday Defense

Thanks.

I have nominated and voted for Pugh several times. He just hasn't made it in... yet.
Jethro often comes up in conversations about "best players to never make a Pro-Bowl." Of course, the competition at the time he played (Lily, Page, Greene, Olsen, White, etc.) may have a little something to do with that...

Regarding the two (mainly) 49ers players, I think Hardman might have a slight edge by virtue of having been on a Super Bowl champion (1980 Raiders) but both are worthy of consideration, in my opinion.

And thanks for mentioning "my' Oakland Invaders... that brings back fond memories!

Pugh had a great career, as did George Andrie, whose clutch postseason play and over 100 career sacks, should put him in the HOF ...

Hardman, Al Baker and Coy Bacon should also be in the HOVG and HOF ... people bring up Bacon going from team to team but he was traded as capital for other players like Hadl and Joiner ...

Hardman wasnt good against the run but not counting the Invaders had 126 sacks, and at least 7-9 more in postseason. He put good pressure on Fouts in the 80 AFC championship and deserved his SB ring with the Raiders.
Some people believe he had five sacks against Staubach in the 71 NFC championship game but Pro Football-Reference.com claims 3.5 ...

My mistake ... According to PFR, Hardman had 11 sacks in postseason and what, eight more with the Invaders ?
Thats 145 and a SB win. A pass rushing wizard who John Madden thought was one of the fastest DE's, ever ...
