Re: R.C. Owens - "Alley-Oop"
Having been fortunate to have seen the Nov 3 '57 Lions game film, I was surprised to see an earlier Alley-Oop TD pass that day called back when SF was penalized.

Re: 2023 Predictions
Didn't Unitas injure his achilles around the same age while fetching a ping-pong ball? As much as bad luck plays a role, there's also just father time.

Re: Teams you feel aren't ever going anywhere
Think about how Davis tricked Ed McGah into signing papers that handed him control of the franchise. If that never happens the franchise probably never leaves for LA or LV...and also isn't handed over to Mark Davis. Under this ownership the Raider ship is listing.

Re: NFL Controversial Plays Prior to 1960
I would suggest Ed Meadow's late hit of Bobby Layne in week 12 of 1956 might fall within this category. The only known game film with the play had that exact moment spliced out. Three reasons possible as to why it was removed. 1) Lions wanted it saved as evidence of malicious intent. 2) Bears wanted...

Think maybe the Raiders missed Tom Keating that day?

I agree the (correction) '89 Niners w/ Young is a strong bet. How about '65 if Starr can't suit up for Cleveland? Can Zeke beat the Browns? I think he'd be solid, capitalizing on momentum from the playoff win.
How about Lamonica winning it all for the Bills in '65?

Obviously if Charley had not been knocked out on the previous play then Ralston may have chosen a different path. In most cases it would make sense to try & pin them deep.

Re: 1973 AFC playoffs had Denver won finale at Oakland?
There was a key play at the start of the 4th quarter that swung the momentum of the game after Denver had cut the lead to 14-10. Facing 3rd and 10 on their own 49-yardline, Denver coach John Ralston opted to try a fake punt on a short snap to the up-back Joe Dawkins, who was nailed for no gain. Thr...

Re: (More) Thoughts on Super Bowl V
I truly believe network employees stole, hid or sold the videotaped games. I also believe NFL Films still have copies of the broadcasts, though their own employees probably kept alot of broadcasts for themselves ... Its a shame because alot of great games like the 1968 AFL Championship and 1966 NFL...
