Re: Evans record finally tied

Technically Hampton never fumbled the kickoff, because he never had possession of it. It bounced behind and between both receivers, then he muffed a recovery attempt, finally recovered by Green in the end zone. It's football's version of the unassisted triple play: a kickoff recovered by the kicking...

Re: NFL TV Broadcasts

1980 is when they began to standardize 1pm Eastern/12pm Central for the early window, although there were still some 1 pm Central games, and the blue laws mandating 2pm Eastern Baltimore. The Central time exceptions ended in 1982, and Baltimore obviously in 1984. Throughout the '70s, it was generall...

Re: Carson Palmer rule or Tom Brady rule?

The college rules committee made pass interference a spot foul in 1917, and it reverted back to a 15-yard in 1984 (retaining a spot foul for deliberate interference). So DPI was always a spot foul in the NFL.

Re: Football History Dude

I personally recommend the one where he interviewed that guy from Football Zebras. But I have a real bias there.

Re: Game books update

Not sure if this was covered previously, but the stat sheets that Rupert was able to obtain from the Colts are now available on the Colts website:

This helped me to finally fill in my last postmerger blank in my postseason officiating database

Re: What will the Redskins new name be?

Yikes, the privilege here is white hot. How about just not appropriating a race for their mascot? Warriors/Indians/Natives/Braves/some other "homage" are just nonstarters. They really have to start from scratch. With the Pentagon nearby, there are military options available, something like...

Re: Playoff Bowl ('60-thru-'69) discussion

Why did the Eagles get the nod to play in the '66 Playoff Bowl over Cleveland? Both were 9-5, both split with each other, but the Browns did have the better conference record at 9-4 as opposed to 8-5. Apparently because (similar to how some college bowl games used to do it), the Browns (1963 season...

Re: Color of goal post 1936

Yellow was not mandated until 1966 as part of the infamous "Baltimore extensions."

Be aware that the padding was not necessarily white. Although there are no stipulations I could find, I am sure there must have been something stating that it could not be a solid color of the home team.
