Re: '58 Browns, and hypo they-vs-Colts NFLCG
Well, with the immortal Milt Plum at the helm vs. Johnny U & Co. in their prime, I figure the final score would be something like Colts 35-7. Here's Milt's composite postseason numbers from 1957 (lost 59-14 to Detroit) and '58 (lost to NYG 10-0): 12-24, 134 yards, 4 picks, 0 TD, 27.4 QB rating. ...

Re: Goal Posts
Anecdotally...I remember once reading somewhere (maybe an article from the '30s or '40s) that the reason the NFL didn't move the posts to the back of the EZ (as college teams had, evidently sometime in the '20s) was because it wanted to cut down on the number of tie games. Placekicking being what it...

Re: Goal Posts
Good question, and a good subject for a Coffin Corner article.
btw---that's the Dairy Bowl, the stadium inside the Milwaukee Mile racetrack that GB used to play in during the '30s and '40s. Don't know if that had anything at all to do with it. Let our Packers experts chime in.

Re: More fodder. . .
I was just looking at some pix from SABR's analytics conference. I don't think I could spot one presenter or attendee who looked to be older than 30. And to be honest, most of them looked like the kind of guys who always got picked last on the playground, if they played at all. They're into the geek...

Re: More fodder. . .
There is going to come a point where all these rules they are putting in place to keep players from getting injured are going to blow up in their face and fans as a whole will begin to demand that more hitting gets put back into the game again. I really do think one of the main reasons why the tv r...

And yet the league will expand to an 18-game sked, sooner than later. We may not be around to see it, but ultimately it'll be a 20-game regular season (but no exhibition games).

Re: Obscure trivia
He really is obscure. He didn't even win the rushing title the year he gained 1,000---Steve Van Buren did.
