Re: HOF Class of 2016
Here were my thoughts on Dungy: http://www.footballperspective.com/thoughts-on-tony-dungy-and-the-hall-of-fame/ His winning percentage is really exceptional. He won 2 out of every 3 games. That's unbelievable, and worthy of some real credit. For those curious, Manning was the starting QB in 125 of 2...

Re: HOF Class of 2016
Dungy is 12th in career winning percentage and 9th in wins over 0.500. Hell, Dungy's winning percentage is better than Belichick's. It's not like he was not a valid candidate.

Re: HOF Class of 2016
Harrison injury in '07 really changed things. But before hand, it's easy to argue he was just as, if not more dominant than, Owens. He had 41 games with 100 yards/TD; Owens had 32.

Re: SB Betting Lines Early Years
The 1969 Vikings were awesome. They led the NFL in points scored and led the NFL in points allowed. They outscored teams by an average of 17.6 points per game in the regular season, which rises to 19.5 once you exclude the meaningless regular season finale that Minnesota didn't try to win. To this d...

Re: Super Bowl X end of game question
Thanks, guys. A 4th-and-9 run in a competitive game seems pretty weird, even for that era. I guess the Bradshaw injury makes a run more likely than a pass, but were blocked punts materially more common back then to make the risk that significant? Blocked punts were pretty common for Chuck Knox's 19...

Super Bowl X end of game question
Can you explain why the Steelers ran it on 4th and 9 at the end of the game here, rather than punt? http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/197601180dal.htm#pbp_150 Here's the Wiki explanation: Staubach then led his team 80 yards in 5 plays on the ensuing drive, scoring on a 34-yard touchdow...

Re: Senior Nominees
The '80 Oilers had an easy schedule and went 8-3 in games decided by 6 or fewer points. That 11-5 record was more about good fortune than anything else. To me, Stabler's HOF case is all about what he did with Oakland, as there was nothing HOF caliber about his post-Raiders career. As for Lamonica, I...

Re: Was George Blanda incredible at avoiding sacks?
Anyway, so going from these numbers we can have a discussion about Rob Johnson as a QB. Was he indecisive, oblivious or what? My recollection was that he was indecisive/terrified of throwing INTs. http://espn.go.com/page2/s/numbers/001212.html My memory may be faulty, but I recall either rumors or ...

Re: Was George Blanda incredible at avoiding sacks?
Matt, All your points are duly noted, and I am in total agreement about the TEAM aspect of the game outweighing all else. However, it is interesting to look at stats like this to get clues about players. It's no surprise that scramblers like Wilson, Tarkenton and Young take a lot of sacks because t...
