Re: Super Bowl I rebroadcast on NFL Network

I was saddened to learn that Jim Simpson passed away earlier this week at the age of 88. He was quite a versatile announcer, having called World Series games, the Olympics and other big sporting events. I put this post here because it's his play-by-play call for NBC Radio that's going to be heard wh...

Re: Super Bowl I rebroadcast on NFL Network

I've seen the program you're taking about. It's very good. But I still want to see whatever videotape remains of the game action. Pro football broadcast footage from that era is so rare it's of vintage quality.

Re: Super Bowl I rebroadcast on NFL Network

From what I've seen in the preview for this program, some of the the game footage has the unmistakable look of videotape, which isn't all that surprising. Even though the most complete version of CBS' broadcast of the game is apparently not part of this reconstruction, due to the failure of the NFL ...

Re: Super Bowl I rebroadcast on NFL Network

I am guardedly optimistic that it will include footage from the CBS telecast which the Paley Center for Media restored some years ago. Then again, it is listed as an NFL Films presentation and rebroadcasting could mean a radio broadcast of the game, with the game action consisting solely of NFL Film...

Re: Packers vs Redskins

According to Wikipedia, in his last regular-season game just before this 1972 NFC Divisional Playoff Game, Nitschke caught a pass for a 34-yard gain after a field-goal attempt he was providing protection for was blocked. As for NFL Films inserting film of a regular-season game into its coverage of a...

Re: Packers vs Redskins

Does anyone here know if any of CBS' telecast of the 1972 playoff game between Green Bay and Washington has survived? I can't help but be curious. Not long ago I saw broadcast footage from the Browns-Dolphins game that aired the same day on NBC. If anything from that NFC Divisional Playoff telecast ...

I'm afraid I don't know how to do that. But if somebody else could, that would be great. I like the collection of videos on that thread.

Re: NBC's telecast of 1972 AFC Championship Game

Happy New Year everyone! Earlier this week I came across a different short video of broadcast highlights from this game on YouTube, and it apparently is the actual game audio, as it features Jim Simpson calling the action. Also, just out of curiosity, I did a search for video of the 1972 NFC Champio...

Ravens to resume playing home games on natural grass

I was so pleased to learn of this. What makes it especially interesting is that, according to media reports, this change to the playing surface at M&T Bank Stadium was pushed for by the Ravens players themselves. I've always believed that natural-grass fields, provided they are properly maintain...
