Re: Rank all (18) '80s top-seeds

Yes, you-know-what is excluded. Here's my top-18 already... 1) '89 FORTY NINERS 2) '85 Bears 3) '87 Forty Niners 4) '84 Forty Niners 5) '83 Raiders 6) '86 Giants - almost '5b' 7) '81 Forty Niners 8) '83 Redskins - if '83 Forty Niners almost beat them... 9) '80 Falcons 10) '81 Bengals 11) '88 Bengal...

Re: Priest Holmes and/or Shaun Alexander HOF worthy?

I think Edgerrin James will be elected and for the same reason as Frank Gore -- both reached 12,000 career rushing yards. James has been a finalist also, so I think he gets in though after a solid wait, and Terrell Davis likely makes it in soon enough having reached the finals now. Adrian Peterson ...

Re: Weakest playoff team, '78-thru-'89

The 1981 Bucs were also a very weak team, weaker than the 1979 Bucs in my opinion. Neither one of those teams were great, but the 1981 Bucs were probably more talented, and Doug Williams had a better year in 81 than he did in 79. Yes, still some anemic stuff for the '89 Steelers after that '92-10' ...

Re: Frank Gore for HOF?

I'm not surprised Jerome Bettis waited a few years before being elected. As mentioned already, his peak (being best in the league) was minimal -- his reputation rests almost entirely on being a long-career compiler. He was also pretty much a non-factor as a receiver, had a fairly low average yards ...

Re: Frank Gore for HOF?

New England's Blount is a current big back, but nowhere near the production of a Bettis. I only noted that Blount is pretty good. My point was that there are some tubby running backs who are doing alright in the league these days. This idea that Bettis is likely the last chubby guy who will achieve...

Re: Frank Gore for HOF?

A great barometer of RB excellence is 100 yard games Might be true, maybe not. Anything more systematic that backs this assertion up would be welcome. Am unsure, myself. and only four backs in NFL history have more than Jerome. Bettis also had a long career. Am wondering how this works out adjusted...

Re: Weakest playoff team, '78-thru-'89

Going back and reviewing, I think I've got to give it to the '78 Falcons. They did beat Philly in the WC round though. Got outscored by 50 in the regular season and it doesn't look like they had much punch on either side of the ball. The defense only came up with 12 interceptions. 6 by Roland Lawre...

Re: Frank Gore for HOF?

Funny is the same things that would potential keep Gore out of the HOF are the same reasons Bettis is in. I'd take Gore over Bettis any day. Early career Gore over Bettis (for both it's really the only time you could put them near the very top though neither was ever the best back in the league), m...

Re: St.Louis Cardinals: Team of the 1970s?

If the Cardinals won their final two regular season games in 1970, then they would have won the NFC East. Who knows from there what would have happened. They would have had a chance to win the Super Bowl. Let's assume they would not have won it and that Charley Winner would have went bye-bye anyway...

Re: Documentary on Joe Roth

Arrived this weekend, watched it tonight. It's excellent. Narrated by Keith Jackson, interviews with numerous teammates and a lot of opponents (players and coaches). Plus interviews with his family. Best part for me is all the footage that's included. JUCO clips, handful of plays against San Jose S...
