Re: How will history judge the Cowher/Tomlin era Steelers?
I don't know about Tomlin, I certainly wouldn't call him a great coach, somewhere between good and very good. He doesn't scheme them up - as accurately identified by a prior poster, they know Brady/Belichick destroy their scheme yet did nothing about it. I do think there's something to what Terry B...

Re: How will history judge the Cowher/Tomlin era Steelers?
Thirteen winning seasons, eleven playoff berths, winning 2 out of 3 Super Bowls with just one losing year (2003) ought to make the Steelers, FWIW, the '2nd-best' team so far this century. Should never be mistaken for a 'dynasty' though. And watering it down further is, yes, 'avoiding' NE (or at lea...

Re: Devin Hester: HOF'er?
Steve Tasker is another special teams player who was dominant in his role with those outstanding Bills teams. I think there's been an issue with quantifying his excellence over the years, unlike Devin Hester, Tasker wasn't especially fast, but found a way to make countless tackles on those special t...

Re: Super Bowl MVP of the losing teams
Foreman? 18 yards in 12 carries? I suppose he was better than Dave Osborn. Jeff Siemon maybe? Foreman also had five catches for 50 yards. Again, nobody from the Vikes really deserves much credit. FWIW, Matt Blair (surprise) blocked the punt that Terry Brown recovered in the end zone for the only Mi...

Re: Steve Smith's HOF chances
Here is a relevant article on the recent WR generation: https://theringer.com/nfl-receiver-generation-larry-fitzgerald-steve-smith-andre-johnson-54e622ef00c8#.x49u9powm I thought it was an interesting article. I agree with the conclusion that Calvin Johnson was the best and Larry Fitzgerald was a l...

Re: HOF Finalists named
Couple questions: 1. Was under the impression Jerry Jones had done a good bit of committee work in addition to creating the product revenue model he's best known for. Still wouldn't make him the best owner in, of course -- though he'll beat Bidwill and DeBartolo handily enough. 2. How good a HoF se...

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions
The 1991 Denver Broncos were the worst 12-4 team to ever reach the AFC-CG. Those Dan Reeves teams were basically Elway, the Mile High Stadium mystique, and not much else. Yeah, it would be between them and the 1984 Steelers. I would give the 84 Steelers an edge as far as being worse because the 91 ...

Re: HOF Finalists named
No huge surprises, Don Coryell would have likely be in already if his teams performed better in the postseason. Others who didn't reach the finalist level will just take more time. Hoping the Veterans Committee finally nominates L.C. Greenwood next time.

Re: Your Unpopular Football Opinions
Here are mine: Troy Aikman was highly overrated as a QB- I think the 1992 Cowboys would have still gone 13-3 and won the Super Bowl if Steve Beurelein started every game that season The 1980 Raiders were basically Jim Plunkett and the 1970s geezers hanging on for one more hurrah The 1978-1979 Steel...
