Re: 1970s Controversial Plays

[1977 seemed to be the most memorable year for that. On top of the ones mentioned, there was a missed call that nobody remembers because it didn't lead to defeat for the affected team. With about 7:00 left in the fourth quarter, and Denver up 24-21 over the Steelers in their Divisional playoff game...

Re: Peter King Top 20 Games of All Time c. 1997

Another candidate: 1969 Vikings-Rams 23-21 playoff game. One of the best games for sure, but for some reason it doesn't always get mentioned in various "Greatest Games" discussions (not the case in this forum where it's been recognized numerous times). I think King's list is missing a few...

Re: Greatest MNF Comeback

In 1983, Dallas began the season on MNF against defending champ Washington. The Cowboys were down 23-3 at half but won the game 31-30. In that game, the Cowboys field goal was made due to Tony Dorsett 77-yard run who was caught by rookie Darrell Green near the goal line (I bet that no one player in...

Re: QB for QB trades

Feb. 1977 - Craig Morton (N.Y. Giants) for Steve Ramsey (Denver). A memorable quote from Woody Paige's 1978 book, Orange Madness (from a less than enthusiastic Giants fan): "We traded our s*** for their s***."

Re: Inside the Pressure Cooker (about the 1973 Jets)

I purchased a copy back in the early 1980's to go along with Paul Zimmerman's 1974 book, The Last Season of Weeb Ewbank. I was an 11 year old Jets fan in 1973 and that season was a real disappointment (Namath spent significant time on the injured list for the 3rd time in 4 years). Thankfully, New Yo...

Re: pre-'70 MNF 1968, GB 28 Dallas 17

The 10/13 and 10/20 games in 1969 were not televised, but were rescheduled because the two teams that year, the Orioles and Mets, were in the World Series. Game Two was on 10/12 in Baltimore, and while the Series ended in five games on 10/16, the 10/20 game was the Jets' home opener. That meant a f...

Re: pre-'70 MNF 1968, GB 28 Dallas 17

From what I've read, the game was televised on CBS. The network aired 6 Monday night games over a 4 year period (1966-1969): 10/31/66: St. Louis Cardinals 24 Chicago Bears 17 10/30/67: Green Bay Packers 31, St. Louis Cardinals 23 9/9/68: Kansas City Chiefs 26, Houston Oilers 21 (AFL) - NBC 9/16/68: ...

Re: AFL All-Time Team

Joe Namath "made" the AFL but Len Dawson should be the league's all-time QB. I agree that Hank Stram should be one of the coaches. In my mind he's clearly the No. 1 guy based on three titles and a SB win. Agree on both points, but was the AFL All-Time Team voting conducted before or after...

Re: A Signature Play in History for each team

For the post-Namath and Gastineau's Jets, I would chose Jumbo Elliott's diving TD catch in the Monday Night against Miami in 2000. When you talk about great comebacks, that's the play they usually show. As a fan of the Namath era Jets, I would pick Namath's 52 yard pass completion to Don Maynard ag...
