Re: Sorry, but they screwed the pooch

Sprinkle, to me, lowers the bar so much it's frustrating. First, his 1940s All_Decade is dubious at best, though for that era a mythical 1945-55 would be a fit. But the thing is, these people say they've watched film or he got in according to Pompei based on film studty TJ and I saw basically the s...

Re: Sorry, but they screwed the pooch

I had low expectations, as always, and somehow they managed to do worse than I thought was possible. I had Wistert as the best football player on the list. So that's probably most egregious, to me. Though, not about one player. The list had some clear choices, some coin-flip/borderline possibilitie...

Re: Sorry, but they screwed the pooch

I bolded cases where I think voters voted for a super senior other than Slater. I really don't recognize many names though: Who am I missing? Are any of these voters known football historians? Four votes isn't going to get it done - if they really wanted to have a committee focussing on the early h...

Re: Sorry, but they screwed the pooch

Covert was 1st team all-NFC in 1987, not first team all-pro. His only first team all-pro seasons were 1985 and 1986.

Re: Class of 2020 will be announced next Wed

Agree with the overall sentiment that it was a lousy job by the Committee, especially given how optimistic many of us were when we initially saw how many old-timers were on the list of 20. Happy about Speedie, Slater, Sabol and Karras. Dillon, too, but if their thinking was that only one Packer shou...

Re: Class of 2020 will be announced next Wed

For the players, I'm less optimistic for a great class because of 1.) the election of Johnson and especially Cowher over Parker and 2.) Ernie Accorsi dropping out and being replaced on the Committee by Gil Brandt. Definite Yes votes (6): Dilweg, Gradishar, Karras, Slater, Speedie and Wistert Definit...

Re: Bill Cohwer one of 2 coaches in Centenial Class

That they chose Johnson and especially Cowher over Parker does not bode well, I fear, for the old-time players.

Re: 2019 Obituaries

I may have missed them but I don't recall seeing obituaries for either Don Colo or Sherman Howard, both of whom passed away in 2019. Don Colo: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/azcentral/obituary.aspx?n=donald-richard-colo&pid=193239622&fhid=17371 Sherman Howard: https://chicago.suntimes.com...

Re: Winston Hill

Do you mean of the 20 finalists? If so, near the bottom. Higher only than Carmichael, Sprinkle and Covert and maybe Isbell. If you're talking beyond just those 20, there are a lot of guys I would say are more deserving.
