Re: If you could enshrine one player into the Hall of Fame..

I mentioned Verne Lewellen and Lavvie Dilweg in an earlier response but the person that I'd really like to see get inducted into the P.F.H.o.F. is Jim Tyrer. Sadly, that's probably never going to happen.

Re: Verne Lewellen

I generally trust the P.F.H.o.F. voters to "get it right" but there's one recent entry (a coach) that I question. In "The Super '70s" book by Tom Danyluk, Archie Manning wonders why Tommy Nobis isn't in the H.o.F. I know someone (who researches football more than I do) who is of ...

Huh. I thought that was a mistake. I had no idea that Bobby Layne ever spent any time on the Bears' roster.

Re: Placekickers

Oh, wow. I had no idea that kicking barefoot was a "thing" (with anybody) that far back. Interesting.

Re: Placekickers

I remember Tony Franklin once kicking a FG (58 or 59 yds?) for Phila. Don't know why they kicked barefoot. The salaries these guys are making, you'd think they could afford a second shoe. - Yeah, Tony Franklin. THAT's the guy I was thinking of (though I know there were others). I do know that, as a...

Placekickers

I've been watching weekly highlights from the 1978 N.F.L. season and on one kickoff I saw the kicker wearing one black shoe and one white shoe. I don't remember much about that but I do remember some placekickers back then kicking barefoot (even in freezing temperatures). John Madden thought kickers...

So where do you rank A.B. all time in terms of Steelers WRs?

Re: Carson Palmer rule or Tom Brady rule?

For passing, I think part of it was the implementation of illegal contact. That was following the Patriots/Colts 2003 AFC Champ Game, where New England constantly held Indy receivers but no calls? Then, defensive holding became a call we started to see more frequently. I think at that point, teams ...

Re: Eli Manning

Eli Manning is a tough call. He just regressed too much for me to put him in the Hall, though I support Conerly and Simms making it, knowing they wont. I will also be surprised if Tony Romo somehow makes the semifinal list for the 2022 HOF class. He could barely win a wild card game but the media l...
