Yeah - Lord knows that without adding a 17th game to the regular season schedule it's almost a 100% certainty that the N.F.L. was going to file for bankruptcy in the near future. Re: Thoughts on a 17 game season
Somehow an odd number of games is just . . . well, odd to me. Obviously lots of records will be broken without any asterisk assigned. How long till injuries get blamed on the longer season. When is enough enough, will there be an 18 or 20 game season in 2030? I don't think being an odd number is wh...

Re: Eli Manning
I have Y.A. Tittle down as the Giants' best QB, ever, with Fran Tarkenton 2nd, and (arguably) Benny Friedman 3rd. Simms and Conerly are in the mix, too. Maybe Ed Danowski (but others probably know more about him than I do)?

Oilers' secondary of the '60s
Do the names Miller Farr, Fred Glick, Tony Banfield, and/or Jim Norton ring any bells with anybody? People know who Ken Houston was and speak of him effusively but what about those other four? From what I can tell they must've made for a pretty good defensive secondary for the Houston Oilers back in...

Re: Mike Iupati
I would be curious to know how you rated Randy Cross and Bruno Banducci... Iupati was good but I don't know that he was 17th-overall-in-the-2010-draft good... Jesse Sapolu (like Cross played Center as well as guard) is another worthy candidate. Woody Peoples... there are lots of good guards over th...

Re: Mike Iupati
Frankly, I think the search for "best ever" at any position for any team is generally fruitless. I can think of a handful of exceptions, Jim Brown and Walter Payton chief among them, but with almost all the others there are many claimants, a lot of room for argument, and no objective way ...

Mike Iupati
Mike Iupati has officially retired after spending his entire playing career in the N.F.C. West. I have him down as the top 49ers LG of all time (edging Guy McIntyre out). Any dissenters?

Re: 1988 NFL season predictions, expectations, discussion, e
That was right before I joined the U.S. Navy. The only thing I remember about the 1988 season is that Howie Long missed most (if not all) of it, I think with blood clots (ewwww!). Actually, there are a couple of other things I remember about that season (without having to look anything up): 1 ) that...
