Re: 1991 Lions and favorite overachievers

The 2001 Bears need to be mentioned as well. 13-3 team that was a total "horseshoe up their ass" season. 5-11 the year before. 4-12 the year after. OT win vs SF. Improbable OT win vs the Browns. (back to back weeks) Lot both games to the second place and 12-4 GB Packers. Only beat 3 teams ...

Re: 1991 Lions and favorite overachievers

Of that same era, I liked the 1989 Packers. They had been bad for so long and they finally started to win. Sharpe was pretty good as a rookie in 1988, but he really broke out in 1989. Don Majikowski and Tim Harris came out of nowhere and had monster seasons. They played so many exciting games and b...

Re: Greatest Season of the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s

Whether luck was involved or not, the Bills of 1992 and 93 were unbeatable in Orchard Park during the postseason, with the Oilers and Dolphins(at home) choking away their chances at victory and the Bills having great postseason games against the Steelers(Reich), Raiders and Chiefs. It had to have b...

Re: Greatest Season of the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s

From 1992-94, the AFC sending the luckiest team to the Super Bowl, not the best. The 92 and 93 Bills teams got very lucky to get anywhere near the Super Bowl (especially the 93 team that should have been 7-9), and the 94 Chargers were the same. By 1995, it looked like the Chiefs would continue that...

Re: Hypo-JETS/BEARS Super Bowl XLV

Of all the hypotheticals you have presented over the years, I think this one has to be the least interesting (with all due respect, in deference to Code of Conduct). Sanchez/Cutler would have me rooting against both teams. Martz prepping Hanie, who he hated, for the Super Bowl would have been amazing

Under-appreciated long stretches by franchises

Going through PFR the other day I only finally noticed/appreciated the stretch of success that the Dolphins had from 1970-2003. Only TWO losing seasons in 34 seasons. Five SB's appearances, two SB wins. 21 playoff appearances. The "worst" stretch was from 1986 to 1989 where the team was a ...

Re: Greatest Season of the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s

Those mid 90's AFC SB teams were pretty uninspiring. Chargers, Steelers, and Patriots. Bleh. Especially when compared to the teams the NFC was putting in during that same time(49ers, Cowboys, Packers). The AFC felt like power vacuum teams from the Bills fall-off but before the Bronco's rose later i...

Re: Greatest Season of the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s

A surprising and fun Chargers team taking the NFL by storm...though I really would've preferred a Steelers/9ers Super Bowl Not sure if I agree with the description of that 94 Chargers team. They only went 11-5 (5-5 down the stretch), and were lucky to have that many wins. They were an above-average...

Re: School me on the 1963 Chicago Bears

The Bears were 20-6-2 between 1962 and '63. The Bears were more solid than spectacular on offense in those seasons. Billy Wade was the QB, a veteran who threw interceptions. They had Willie Galimore at running back in '63 but he died in an auto accident during training camp before the '64 season. T...
