Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated

Chris Mortensen said in The Sporting News after the first Dallas loss that the Bills should have traded either Jim Kelly or Thurman Thomas. I would have traded Thermal, and he wouldn't have been the only guy I got rid of. Ah yes, the start of 'hot take' reporting with guys dropping in to ESPN to de...

This team had exactly one future HOFer on its roster.
It's head coach won a league championship with a previous team.
A rookie cornerback went on to an over decade long career with 35+ interceptions.
1969 Bengals (?)

Re: Looking At the Teams That Attempted to Threepeat

1974 Dolphins The Dolphins had beaten the Steelers every year from 1971-1973. Could they have defeated Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship? It would have been a great game. 1976 Steelers Even at full strength, the Raiders had defeated the Steelers in 76 and early in the 77 regular season. I'm not sur...

Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated

Where does Elway rank for you CS ? I'm guessing above Steve Fuller? As for Denver always beating Cleveland/Houston, I have three thoughts: 1) You had two of the worst postseason coaches in Schottenheimer & Glanville, three if you include Pardee. But... 2) In a few of the games, two against Clev...

Not sure....what is your opinion on Fuller? Better or worse than Dieter Brock?

But I think at some point the QB with the highest winning percentage in the NFL was Mike Tomczak.

Most impressive/interesting achievement

What is the singular most impressive stat/thing that you've seen in each sport? Football = Don Hutson lapping the field in 1942 receiving Baseball = Toby Harrah & Bump Wills hitting inside-the-park HRs on consecutive pitches Basketball = Isiah Thomas 16 points in last 94 seconds to force OT in p...

Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated

I think that's kind of ridiculous, but I think you did mention a really overrated team: the 1985 Bears. They went 15-1 (winning a weak division in a walk) and routed an 11-5 AFC team quarterbacked by Tony Eason and coached by Raymond Berry; the 49ers went 15-1 and trounced a 14-2 team with Dan Mari...

Agreed....that's what makes it exclusive!

Re: Worst draft classes for a team

1967 Falcons, coming off an expansion year, had NO ONE from their draft make the team. Interesting. The 67 Saints had a draft that I didn't really understand. They ended up getting a few good players, but their first two picks were Bo Burris and Les Kelley. Burris was a QB who the Saints had planne...
