Re: NFL QBs/Tennis analogy

To Reaser’s comment, there’s definitely performance-enhancing going on, but it’s not from drugs. It’s from plants. Tom Brady has been mostly plant-based for years. Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Novak Djokovic all have made ridiculous amounts of money from prolonging their careers by going plan...

Re: Fewest Pass Attempts in a Game for Modern Era

Oct. 4, 1981, the Oilers beat the eventual AFC Champion Bengals 17-10 in the Astrodome. Ken Stabler completed 1 of 6 passes for 3 yards, and was sacked once for a loss of 7 yards, for a net of minus-four yards passing for the Oilers. (In contrast, Ken Anderson threw 52 passes for the Bengals.) Earl ...

Re: Fewest Pass Attempts in a Game for Modern Era

On a beautiful sunny day on Oct. 16, 1977, the Giants and Joe Pisarcik attempted just six passes in a 20-17 win over San Francisco at the Meadowlands. Pisarcik completed two of the six, including a 37-yard TD pass to Gary Shirk.

Re: Paytons non TD in SB 20

In the red zone, Payton had 7 runs (one negated by penalty) and a pass thrown to him. None of them happened to reach the end zone. The Bears said later that the Patriots were way overplaying Payton (remember the flow of attention he got on the long pass to Willie Gault). My feeling is that unless Pa...

Re: Favorite season in NFL history?

We had a string like this in 2011, here were the responses then: evan Posted 08 April 2011 - 01:16 PM What was your favorite season, and why? Was it something about the style of play, the teams, the stars, the rookies, the games, the era, the controversies that all came together to become a journey ...

Some good stuff coming from NFL Network

I know the NFL Network has been a source of frustration for many of us for their lack of historical content, but I'm personally looking forward to somehow finding a way to watch as much as I can of some of the "NFL 100" content they have planned. Of course, having cut the cord to cable man...

Oh sorry, I thought it was four different questions, rather than one question with four parts. My bad.

Re: Name the team and the year trivia

"This team had all four conference championship participants on their schedule."

I think this one has happened several times, correct?

1972 Cardinals
1974 Patriots
1978 Saints
1980 Broncos
1980 Seahawks

The Matt Blair Rule or The Gary Lewis Rule?

When the NFL prohibited taking a running start to block a field goal, I've heard that called "The Matt Blair Rule" on account of Don Shula referencing what Blair did when he argued that the practice should be outlawed. But I've also heard it referenced as "The Gary Lewis Rule" in...

Re: Distance to go for a first ...

Okay, I've been looking for this anecdote for about a decade, and just stumbled upon it, so just wanted to add to this string for the record. Sept. 19, 1976, Giants at Philadelphia (this was the game highlighted in the Vince Papale movie Invincible ) Giants had a 3rd and 55. The sequence went like t...
