Re: Super Bowl 0 - What if?

Here's a trivia question, along this vein: If the Super Bowl had started with the onset of the AFL in 1960, how many different franchises would the Packers have faced, to date, in Super Bowl history? 1961 - Houston Oilers 1962 - Dallas Texans 1965 - Buffalo Bills 1966 - Kansas City Chiefs (SB I) 19...

More than you could possibly want to know about Booth.... https://www.profootballresearchers.org/biography/Lusteg_Booth.pdf Good, thorough article. One location misspelled: Jerry took some lessons in kicking and put in plenty of practice time at Bower Field in New Haven with his wife doing the hold...

Re: Straight-on kicking

You make a good point, as straight-on kicking is a better option when the plant foot area is slippery. Keeping one's center of gravity directly over the plant foot has less chance of slipping than a twisting soccer-style torqued body, coming in an an angle and needing to stop firmly in one place. Th...

Re: Random NFL tidbits/stats that you find interesting...

And for a totally out of left field tidbit. Mike Cofer of the 49ers went 7/20 on field goals between 30 and 50 yards in 1991. That's pretty atrocious for that era of kicking. They never thought to replace him? going 3/10 alone from 30-40 yards back then is pretty terrible. Mike Cofer also holds the...

An NFL/CFL combo ... Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe these are the last three drop kick attempts: Doug Flutie (NFL) - Jan. 1, 2006 (extra point made) Jan Carinci (CFL) - June 10, 1983 (extra point made by holder after bad snap from center) *Exhibition game Ti-Cats @ Argos https://news...

Re: punts and drop kicks - rule change

When Dough Flutie did his drop kick for the Pats during his last season, this was after this 1991 rule was implemented. Before this 1991 rule, there used to be 4 things that any NFL player with the football could do anywhere, at anytime: 1. Declare himself down 2. Call time out (if the team had any ...

Re: Has field goal kicking become too automatic?

Speaking from a Kicker's standpoint: As far as making NFL Kickoffs more returnable, one major change was back in 1994 when the 3-inch kickoff tee was banned, and kickers were limited to a 1-inch tee for kickoffs. This led to much lower trajectories, and less hang time. But in recent years the kickof...
