Re: Ejections
Jim Brown was ejected from his last regular season game in 1965 against the Cardinals in St. Louis. Brown and DE Joe Robb had a "quick flareup" as Brown called it, and both shook hands. But both were thrown out. JB had 12 carries for 74 yards and had scored his 21st TD of the season. He mi...

Re: Detroit @ Dallas - 1970 Divisional Round
I saw the Cowboys 5-0 win over the Lions on TV at the time and saw a replay a few years ago. It was striking how bad Landry and Morton were. IIRC, Morton had a damaged elbow which impacted him throughout the playoffs. Another impact to the passing game was the loss of Lance Rentzel during the last ...

Re: 2023 Obituaries
I remember Johnny Lujack as an analyst on pro and college football games on TV in the 60s. He was wearing a fedora, very articulate.

Re: Detroit @ Dallas - 1970 Divisional Round
It was Greg Landry, not Munson, who started for the Lions and went 5-12 for 48 yards. Landry had won the starting job around midseason and had done very well down the stretch as the Lions went on a winning steak to take the wildcard spot. Landry was bad and Bill Munson relieved him on, I think, the ...

Re: Latest lead taken and blown
That miracle Detroit win @ Balt in 1960 was the first NFL game I can remember watching. I was nearly 7 years old. I recall it chiefly because my oldest brother Bob was whooping it up cuz he'd placed a bet on the game. I was age 10 when I saw it. In 1960 there was no instant replay. It was over and ...

Re: Latest lead taken and blown
Music city Miracle is probably close to that - I don't know exactly how many seconds were left in regulation. My guess is that there have been a few times that a team has taken a lead and then the opposing team scored a TD on the kickoff return to win. Also, what was the time left on that classic L...

As someone who followed pro football when Carroll Rosenbloom was a prominent team owner, I believe Rosenbloom should be in the PFHOF.JohnTurney wrote:Or Carroll Rosenbloom - if we're talking about owners...Brian wolf wrote:McCaskey over Vainisi is ridiculous!

Re: Games with deceptive final scores
George Allen's Rams never got a break on the playoff seeding. In 1967 they beat the Colts in the last game of the season to tie them for the best record. Then they had to go to freezing Milwaukee to play the 9-4-1 Packers. By the same token, the Packers were just playing by the rules of the time. T...

Re: Games with deceptive final scores
As I have mentioned before, the 1967 Packers playoff win over the Rams could have been alot different had Gossett for LA had hit his early FG attempts. Instead, the Packers go up 14-7 at the half and take over defensively in the second half, with Williams and Dale starring on offense. Despite four ...

Re: 1975 Dolphins vs 1977 Dolphins
I think it's more that they were considered more prominent than CBs. 1970-77 was really the only time it happened. Miami was probably the biggest example but there were other teams. Prior to that safeties were DBs who were too slow for CB. After mostly too, nickel started becoming important immedia...
