Re: '84 Broncos discussion
Maybe someone mentioned it and I didn't see it but didn't Elway get injured in the playoff game? I seem to recall him limping a lot in the 4th quarter. Yes, he did get hurt. I remember him having tape around his waist and thigh (maybe) in the second half while having trouble with mobility. I saw th...

Re: Worst draft classes for a team
You would think film study would show Joe's mental toughness at the end of college games but general managers, coaches and scouts simply doubted him, though the 3rd round was still better than Brady or Purdy, who were improperly evaluated. Green Bay's Red Cochrane banged the table for Montana to no...

Re: '84 Broncos discussion
;) I kind of feel re the 1980's Denver Broncos that Dan Reeves went 85-50-1 during the 1980's in his first head coaching job and should be in the Hall of Fame, but as Bill Parcells said in his book with Jerry Izenberg "The Broncos (of that era) just cannot handle power". But as you say 13...

Re: Worst draft classes for a team
I have no idea why Sid Gillman traded that pick away to Dallas (that became Too Tall). Sid made some stupid trades when he was with the Oilers. As for Dorsett, I don't know if they get him if Joe Roth was healthy, and didn't have cancer. Some team like the Rams (with picks and excellent depth) may h...

Re: '84 Broncos discussion
I have wondered at times what would have happened if Gradishar came back for one more year, and they were able to get to the SB. If he would have said that 84 would have been his last year going into the playoffs, I think they beat the Steelers because they would have been more focused. As for Miami...

Re: Radical draft picks/trades in retrospect...thoughts on who "won"?
Nobody really won that Ricky Williams deal, especially since he would be off to Miami in a few years.
As for Janikowski, it's not surprising that Al Davis did that, but there were rumors at the time that he could have been deported, so it was a risk.

Re: Worst draft classes for a team
Glenn Carano had to be a surprising one since they had Danny White and Roger already on the team. He must have been the best on their board at the time, but it prevented them from taking someone else that was the best on their board in Round 3 a few years later. Also, their 1986 second rounder, Darr...

Dermontti Dawson played in SB 30 with the Steelers.

Re: Worst draft classes for a team
Though he contributed to championship teams and made the HOF, Bobby Beathard had some horrible drafts for the Chargers, before he left in 2000. Gil Brandt made the HOF for Dallas but had bad drafts during the 80s. If these guys can make it, why not Jack Vainisi or Don Klosterman? On his way out the...

Re: Looking At the Teams That Attempted to Threepeat
Paul Warfield believed had the Dolphins gotten by the Raiders, they would have beaten the Steelers in the Orange Bowl before beating Minn. I am doubtful, without Jake Scott. 1974 was the last year of the rotation system for the AFC Title Game. That year, it went West, Central, and then East. So, if...
