Re: NFL Throwback YouTube channel ranks every Super Bowl winner, and loser in two seperate videos.

But I think the Vikings could’ve won it all in 1970 with Tarkenton instead of Gary Cuozzo at quarterback. Not that it has any bearing on real life but I played the 1970 Vikings in a Strat-O-Matic Football league. We were allowed one "draft pick" to add to the team and I took Fran Tarkento...

Re: 51-60, released

I agree. Elliott was a mauler who you could run your offense through. Diehl was a good, consistent player, like Brian Kelly, but not really a special talent. Ottis Anderson at 51 is pretty incredible. 2841 yards from scrimmage, 3.2 yards per carry in 7 seasons. That might be impressive if Anderson ...

Re: Is the following record unbreakable?

From Chris Willis' book The NFL's 60-Minute Men , page 80: "...Lewellen punted 84 times in 1929. The breakdown was: 1st down (24 times); 2nd down (8); 3rd down (27); and 4th down (25)." That gives us some idea of the ratio of punts/down during the time in which punting was used to establis...

Re: Giants doing top 100 players ... have released 91-100

My Top 6 Giants #5 -- Gifford #4 -- Robustelli/R Brown tied #3 -- Taylor #2 -- Hein #1 -- Tunnell Yes, Robustelli starred with the Rams first, but the Giants defense became great as soon as he joined them in 1956. He had to have easily had over 100 sacks based upon his numbers from the 1960s. Tunne...

Re: Giants doing top 100 players ... have released 91-100

I am anticipating Eli Manning being ranked ~3rd All Time and Gary Myers using the result as a momentum springboard for his HOF case. I was thinking/dreading that, also. Mel Hein and Lawrence Taylor have (?) to be 1 A and 1 B and after that... they'll probably make the above decision. And Michael St...

Re: Is the following record unbreakable?

One of my favorite season previews is Dell's Illustrated Digest of Pro Football for 1972 (after the 1971 season) which has an article in it titled "They'll NEVER Beat (Jim) Brown's Records." We've all seen how well that prediction holds up... So, who knows what will happen in the future......

Re: Neal Anderson

I remember thinking, at the time, that with Anderson and Calvin Thomas in the backfield the Bears might be OK when Walter Payton retired.
Turned out they were pretty good but, of course, there was only one Sweetness.
