Re: Was George Blanda incredible at avoiding sacks?

What qualifies as "analysis"? Is it compiling existing data that proves or disproves the past? The best way to determine whether a metric is valid or relevant is to apply it to games that haven't been played. Spend a year forecasting games and you'll learn things about what wins and loses ...

Re: Was George Blanda incredible at avoiding sacks?

In critical situations, other than a turnover nothing kills like a sack. So, though it may not be particularly relevant, the Blanda sack observation is interesting.

Re: Horn Tooting

For the most part, I believe coaches and organizations win games. Players, their statistics, awards, and honors are by-products. If Player A didn’t exist, if Player A hadn’t caught the game winning touchdown or made the key sack, Player B would have. And then we'd be citing Player B's stats and voti...

Recently watched a few Raiders games from this era and had forgotten what an absolute beast Matt Millen was.

Re: 1980-83 Raiders, 2 wins in 4 years or at the bump of era

IMO the 1983 Raiders are horribly underrated. Too much emphasis on statistics. I don't know who is underrating the 1983 Raiders. Many people think the 83 Raiders were the best Raider team ever, even better than the 76 Raiders. They made the NFL Films America's Game top 20 list. Well...ESPN ranked t...

IMO the 1983 Raiders are horribly underrated. Too much emphasis on statistics. From the standpoint of one contest the team could whip anyone, which is what happened in the SB. That said, the Redskins just shanked one in the water that day. It happens.

Scenario: On the road, need a touchdown, minute and a half left, no timeouts, pass rush is effective.

Probably take Joe Montana.

Re: 7 Worst Head Coaches Ever - HA!

Great lists, but many of these men were in situations not conducive to winning. What about the coaches who underachived in decent to great situations? Mike White, Tommy Prothro, Ray Rhodes, Jeff Fisher and Mike Martz are a few that come to mind. White's 1995 Raiders dropped their last six after star...

Re: NEW SERVER FOR PFRA, JULY 7, 2015

It usually isn't the rules but the person charged with enforcing them. If things get slippery, that's where it usually starts. Talking any enterprise, not just here. For example, pass interference isn't a bad rule. It can be, though, if the ref makes a bad call or shows bias. For my money, the less ...
