Re: RB Todd Gurley's start as reported by media
[quote="rhickok1109"]I keep hearing stuff like "That's the first time it happened since November of 2013" from baseball and football broadcasters. [quote] Yes. And what's funny is due to sites like Pro-Football-Reference and Pro Football Archives, which are obviously great sites,...

Re: RB Todd Gurley's start as reported by media
Well, that was my first thought as well. I didn't think STATS was still relevant, yet they were quoted everywhere on this yesterday.Bryan wrote:STATS sucks.
I'm used to media not looking back very far, but 1991? Wow.

RB Todd Gurley's start as reported by media
Yesterday, after Rams RB Todd Gurley had another big day, several media outlets reported that Gurley is the first rookie to open his career with four consecutive 100-yard games "according to STATS with data available since 1991." Since 1991? That was yesterday. This is as far back as STATS...

Re: A Star-studded Group...
Love this list, OCC. Perfect illustration how the scouting thing is mostly nonsense. And how the *great* player is defined in retrospect. And, dare I say, the oxymoron of human knowledge.
Nice work. Not hard to do. But poignant.

Re: Seeking online sources for newspapers
By the way, just noticed that MCPL's search tool for ProQuest Historical has a completely new format.
Just when you get used to something.![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Seeking online sources for newspapers
Is it just me, or do the links at the Browns historical website for the individual game article seem to no longer be working? http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf/2008/08/cleveland_browns_results_and_g.html Nope, it's not just you. Decent database, but always wished it had more than just ...

Re: Seeking online sources for newspapers
The Baltimore Sun one has prices. That gets costly, depending on what you are researching and wouldn't allow just looking around as it would add up.... Not if you go through the Baltimore Public Library. It's free and you get the historical Baltimore Sun. It's an annual fifty dollar fee for an out ...

Re: Seeking online sources for newspapers
What source do you use for Minneapolis/St. Paul? Good question, and there isn't a good answer. If a newspaper has been scanned to microfilm but not run through OCR software, your only option is to pore through the film, minus any help via searching keywords, etc. The Mpls/StP papers are on microfil...
