No apology necessary. Opinions vary.

Re: "The integrity of the game"

Fact is, there are (for example) serious, legitimate pressures... Very true. People criticize Roger Goodell, and even though he's not perfect much of the criticism is unwarranted. The climate today is litigious. The beloved Pete Rozell wouldn't have fared any better in this litigious, politically c...

Re: "The integrity of the game"

The sport has most certainly changed. The middle of the field is wide open and a free pass for receivers which has completely changed the passing game. As has illegal contact, "defenseless players", and the myriad of other changes to open up the (passing) game. Not to mention teams can't ...

Re: "The integrity of the game"

Speaking of the Seahawks, add them to the list of teams (like the 86-91 Bears, 90s Cowboys) who p*ssed it all away. Tremendous team who should be in the middle of a dynasty. Sure, they could still make the playoffs, but will likely go nowhere if they do (would love to be wrong). Egos did the 86-91 B...

Re: "The integrity of the game"

...lots of questionable calls and the instant replay usage was terrible...game took forever... There's a tendency to think the game has changed or gotten worse. But has the game really changed, or has media coverage and technology contributed to this phenomenon? Thinking it's the latter. When every...

Re: "The integrity of the game"

A while back, I posted that Goodell's vendetta against Brady and the Patriots, which was supposed to safeguard the integrity of the game, was more likely to damage it; my reasoning was that if the Patriots lost a game because of questionable calls, every fan in New England would be convinced that G...

Re: NYTimes:"Frank Gifford Had C.T.E., Family Says"

No doubt that playing football, especially at the professional level, is a dangerous undertaking. However, until everyone has these studies posthumously done on them, we won't know how much more prevalent CTE is on football players than it is on the average Joe or Joanne. So true. He has CTE. He pl...

Re: PFRA mentioned in Rolling Stone

In the last couple years Rolling Stone has tackled the occasional sports article, usually by writer Matt Tabbi. I think it's part of their makeover, i.e., rock and roll is all but dead (and the magazine 'Classic Rock' has already carved out a great niche in rock nostalgia), so they're tackling moder...

Re: New Books

Just finished "Cheating is Encouraged," the book about the 1970s Raiders by Mike Siani. Not bad, but not great. The problem is, if you've read 'Snake' by Ken Stabler and 'Hey, Wait a Minute' by John Madden, you've read this book. Same stories retold, almost verbatim. I'm starting to believ...

I wonder if a better title for this thread would've been "Coach talk from the turkey."
