For me, Brett Favre breaking the career touchdown-pass record.
Runner-up: Jerry Rice's first NFL game, not that I had any idea who he was at the time.

1968 NFL/AFL radio summary
Interesting artifact from the Aug. 12, 1968 edition of Broadcasting magazine. It includes a team-by-team rundown of flagship stations, announcers, and sponsors, as well as information about what networks paid to broadcast pro and college football. The article starts on page 23. https://www.worldradi...

Re: 2024 Obituaries
Larry Beightol, offensive line coach for the Falcons, Buccaneers, Chargers, Jets, Oilers, Dolphins, Packers, and Lions, died April 4 at age 81. His masterpiece might have been his early-2000s line in Green Bay that included Mark Tauscher and Chad Clifton and led the way for Ahman Green's best years....

Re: 1959 Packers
Thanks for the tip. Somebody put out a book years back that contained contemporaneous scouting reports of current and prospective Packers from that era. Nitschke was such a handful that they were just dying for an excuse to get rid of him. It's fun to read how little scouts sugar-coated their report...

Re: 1973 Raiders
Like many in the media at the time, Gowdy was infatuated with the Raiders. It's not surprising that he'd say something so hyperbolic.

The closest is Culpepper, who was the 11th overall pick.Brian wolf wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 2:45 pm how long has it been since the Vikings drafted a QB in the top 5, ever ?

Re: John Hadl to Packers in 1973?
It indicates that Hadl was being shopped around, considering that it was just a couple weeks later that he was sent to L.A. I don't doubt that the Packers were at least contacted.

Re: Mahomes, going into SBLVIII today, what HOF QBs has he already 'passed'??
The Brady comparisons are apt. Both faced relatively meager expectations coming into the league, both found themselves matched with the absolute perfect coach, both have taken full advantage of QB-friendly rules, both showed a knack for ending up smelling like a rose in big games where they didn't n...
