Re: First A-A player in NFL playoff game

Yep, you're right. Ford missed the NY game, came back to play vs Rams.

Re: First A-A player in NFL playoff game

Would it be Tunnell, Motley, and Willis in the 1950 playoff game between the Browns and Giants? Of course, that is if we don't count Pollard and other AA players from the 20's and 30's. If it was Tunnell, Motley, and Willis, then it would also have to be Horace Gillom and Emerson Cole who played fo...

Re: First A-A player in NFL playoff game

I guess Motley, Willis, and Tunnell technically would be the first because the Rams-Bears game in LA didn't start until 3 hours later because of the time difference.

Re: 1967 Blues for the Browns

Meanwhile, back in 1967: Another break for the Cleveland Browns was quarterback Charley Johnson being drafted into the army . Man, when will we ever see something like that again? Big names like Elvis, Willie Mays, etc. putting their careers on hold to do a 2-year hitch. Or a guy like Staubach actua...

Re: First A-A player in NFL playoff game

Off the top of my head, wouldn't that distinction be shared by several Rams and Browns in the 1950 postseason? And it wouldn't be the title game, it would be in the divisional playoffs (LA-Bears, Clev-NYG) played the week before. So, Motley, Bill Willis, Tank Younger, Deacon Dan Towler, Woodley Lewi...

Re: 2024 Season Notes Weeks 4-6

Losing Hutch is huge, obviously. Let's see how the D steps up. If there's any consolation to Lions fans, the last time the team won the NFL title (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), they lost their #1 guy, Bobby Layne, to a broken leg. And that was in the second-to-last game of the regular seaso...

Re: 2024 Obituaries

One of my faves growing up in Detroit. Still remember that 76-yard QB "sneak" vs Green Bay in 1970. So long ago. Jeezus. Rest In Peace, Greg.

Re: Bert Rechichar

There's a book--When the Colts Belonged to Baltimore (or something like that)---that had some good stuff on Rechichar. Just one of many characters on those great Colts teams.
