Re: Sandwich year teams
2003 Steelers. The Steelers went 9-7 in 2000, then won their division in 2001 and 2002. In 2003, it all came apart, but it worked out when they got to draft Ben in 2004. Then, they went 15-1 in 2004 and won the Super Bowl in 2005.

Re: What's the biggest football moment you witnessed in person?
Sadly, I haven't been to enough NFL games to have ever seen anything of significance. The most meaningful football result I ever saw was the 2017 Rose Bowl which finished 52-49. But as for the NFL, practically the only thing of note was either the Packers keeping the Browns winless (in 2017) or Clay...

Re: E.J. Holub
I would bet there are more players than E.J. who started Super Bowls at more than one position. Ronnie Lott comes to mind (CB 81&84; S 88&89). However, I don't know if there was anyone who started on offense on one occasion and defense on another... anyone? Yeah, what I meant was starting o...

Re: NFL MVP's who didn't deserve to win
The obvious choices for me are 1982 Mark Moseley and 1987 John Elway. Moseley was a kicker who wasn't even perfect that season, so the less said about that the better. Elway won only because the dominant Montana-Rice duo split votes. Jerry Rice had an NFL record for receiving touchdowns while playin...

E.J. Holub
As an NFL guy and not too knowledgeable on the AFL, I was unfamiliar with E.J. Holub, but now I am shocked that I didn't know of him. He started two Super Bowls at two different positions, the only one to ever do that. 7 times on either first or second-team All-AFL, five-time All-Star, three-time AF...

Re: 2023 Predictions
Super Bowl LVIII: Chiefs 42, Cowboys 35 Super Bowl MVP: Patrick Mahomes, of course, in the highest-scoring Super Bowl ever. Well, I got most of it right. Chiefs win it all (again), Mahomes wins MVP (again), a close game (again). Now the question of a three-peat begins. Ordinarily I'd figure that it...

Re: NFL's Most Influential Teams
I think this list would be better if they ranked the most influential "seasons." But I agree with most teams on the list.

Re: 2023 Conference Championship Games
From the perspective of this dinosaur, analytics is usurping common sense in sports. That's why Campbell went for it on those two 4th downs instead of attempting the FG. Among other things analytics has given us are entire lineups filled with guys hitting 18 home runs with 156 K. I gave up on baseb...

Re: Freezer Bowl
That game was one of the very few where the same team kicked off to start both halves. Instead of electing to kick or receive the opening kickoff, Sam Wyche elected to have the wind with him to start the game. San Diego then elected to get the ball for the second half kickoff, with the same wind ag...

Re: NFLPA All-Pro team
Packers actually got somebody! Of course it's just the NFLPA version, but I'm glad someone got recognition. I had to look at Nixon's stats, and I was surprised that they were pretty good. He takes more kicks out of the end zone than almost anybody else in the league, so there are a lot of <25-yard r...
