Re: List your "greatest player in every league"!
Great thinking on WLAF/NFLE; I forgot that league existed for a moment. It's really hard to pick a QB as best, because there was really a lot of solid QB play in that league; I'd say Kitna's is outside the top five seasons. I definitely agree with Lawrence Phillips, though; truly the Trent Richardso...

Re: Random NFL tidbits/stats that you find interesting...
Davey O'Brien's 1940 season is definitely one of my favorite trivia. He officially rushed 100 times for -180 yards that year. While a lot of sacks are included in that figure, as I demonstrated in another thread, even after parceling them out he almost certainly ran the ball 60+ times for negative y...

Re: Newest HOVG Inductees
Now that you bring him up, Feathers vs. Grange is a really interesting comparison. Why do we revere Grange, who was similarly ruined by injury as Feathers, and don't even consider Feathers HOVG worthy, when the latter seemed to be the better player in the few healthy moments we got to see of him? Gr...

Re: Newest HOVG Inductees
I thought for sure Feathers broke his shoulder a couple weeks before, kept playing and took the bench immediately after getting the 1000th yard, but I'm not positive. Maybe I'm thinking of him playing hurt in the title game. Not sure how 1000 would have been received back then.

Well, it is the NFL, but no other reason you can't list a player from it if you want.Rupert Patrick wrote:Does APFA count?

List your "greatest player in every league"!
Basically, list one player for every pro football league that has existed, you can name as many leagues as you want. Only accomplishments that occurred in the league of interest count; for instance, Kurt Warner isn't the greatest Arena Football player for what he went on to do in the NFL. Hopefully ...

Re: Newest HOVG Inductees
Hamer was 103 for 789. P.S. You absorbed a lot in a short time! Did you know of Hamer before the site @ChrisBabcock shared? I knew of him because some have speculated that he may have been the first 1000 yard rusher, so I decided to check on him. 103 for 789 is indeed much more effective that what ...

Re: What in the world was up with Johnny Lujack?
My point wasn't that they didn't have other skills besides passing, it was that of all those 30+ carries they had those years, almost every one was a sack. Davey O'Brien was not just getting sacked; rather, he was the most catastrophically incompetent ball carrier imaginable, and I could gain more y...

Re: Newest HOVG Inductees
Do we have anything close to relatively complete stats for Latone? What about other contemporaries, like Friedman, Grange, or Nevers? These and other early NFL guys interest me heavily, but I've never been able to find any more on them than is on their PFR cards. The closest we've got is this... ht...

Re: Herschel Walker
Craig just got in second ballot, so it seems Walker is only waiting to become eligible then. What is our overall impression of how USFL stats should count? Similar to AAFC or early AFL stats, or less significant than those?
