Re: Cam Newton

I concede the passing efficiency between eras point. I was never really trying to argue differently. I also conceded that Aikman was better in the playoffs, but so was Smith. My argument, rather, was that Smith's output, both regular season and playoffs, was so much better than Aikman's that, after ...

Re: Worst player in HOVG? Best player not in?

A recent one I didn't vote for is Earl Morrall - he played a position where coming up big in a few big games is a big deal and as a result is probably better known than a lot of HOFers in most circles, but looking at the entire career, I would say a notch below on him. Obviously, I'm going to say L...

Re: Worst player in HOVG? Best player not in?

For me, worst player in has to be Jack Kemp. HOVG is miles better than HOF at picking QBs in particular, but this one just boggles the mind. Kemp was not even league average once, he was equally bad his entire career with zero good seasons, and his Bills tenure in particular was a dumpster fire on ...

Re: Cam Newton

I support having standards for HOF induction, but I disagree with some points about Aikman. He's not remembered for being the 1st overall pick, but for winning three Super Bowls. Aikman was extremely accurate. The stats say he was #1 or #2 in completion percentage 5 times in a 6 year span. His 69.1...

Re: Cam Newton

I'd find Aikman tough to support for HOVG. A league average game-manager in an era when it's not like they weren't throwing the ball. His RB had more touchdowns than him more years than not, and he wasn't avoiding turnovers like a champ either. If he was drafted in the 5th round instead of 1st overa...

Worst player in HOVG? Best player not in?

In my opinion, the HOVG has been, well, very good at inducting the right players, much better than the HOF on average, which has accepted several solidly HOVG level guys. However, while I'm sure we can all agree on this matter, I doubt any of us think it's perfect either. So what do you think are it...

Re: What in the world was up with Johnny Lujack?

So it sounds to me like the best estimation of O'Brien's rushing output in 1940 is something like 70 carries for between zero and one YPC. Yeah, that is absolutely execrable. Worst ball carrier of all time, undisputed. Another interesting thing I noticed about him: he was the most utterly inoffensiv...

Re: Cam Newton

A couple counter-points: 2015 was Newton's biggest statistical year, but one could argue it's not even his greatest, because in the context of rookie QB seasons his 2011 was utterly historic. I'd give him credit for two truly great seasons. Second, we can all agree the HOF is terrible beyond terribl...

Cam Newton

Very possible he's done at this point, at least as a productive starter. Sad to see him go, was one of the most unique players of this decade. Does he have a HOF case, if not, HOVG? Or prime just not long enough for a QB? It doesn't seem like Michael Vick is up for HOF anytime soon, for instance.

Re: List your "greatest player in every league"!

I had to look up Barry Wagner, that's a great pick. Scored on over a fourth of his catches and over a third of his rushes, and even played both ways very well his whole career. What a great player. I love discovering unique talents like this. I can't believe TRich went undrafted in the XFL 2.0. How ...
