Re: NFL 100 All-Time Team

Missed Gronk, who has exactly 0% chance of getting passed over, especially if there's 5 TE. Marino? Don't see much chance of him missing either. Derrick Brooks was an ILB. I'll try this out tomorrow.

Re: What in the world was up with Johnny Lujack?

O'Brien definitely wasn't a waste as a passer. As I said initially, his standard passing stats range from decent to somewhat below average, and paint a pretty ordinary picture of him. The advanced and rate stats portray him much worse, but given era differences, he was certainly no comparison in awf...

Re: NFL 100 All-Time Team

My QB picks (if limit is 10) are, in chronological order: Friedman, Baugh, Graham, Unitas, Dawson, Montana, Marino, Favre, P. Manning, Brady. In order of importance: Brady, Marino, Graham, P. Manning, Baugh, Friedman, Unitas, Montana, Favre, Dawson. If 12 are allowed, add Brees and Steve Young. Bree...

Re: Continuation of Discussion Under Cam Newton

The mention of Larry Johnson might not be quite the right comparison, because Johnson was an absolute monster for a couple years in the NFL too until the Chiefs just ran him straight into the ground. So even though he made a lot of his stats off cupcakes in college, he also had the talent to wreck t...

How to identify worst receivers?

Bad quarterbacks are easy to pick out from a pile; there are all kinds of numbers that set apart the Ryan Lindleys and Peter Men of the world. For RBs, low yards per carry is usually a good if not perfect indicator of a scrub, given that they aren't limited to a short-yardage role. These measures co...

Re: Continuation of Discussion Under Cam Newton

I think the lack of stats is the biggest problem. Sure, there's a perceived difference in quality between NFL and other teams of the time, but dig up someone who ran for 1500 yards in the Ohio or Grange League and I'm sure people would be duly impressed. That's probably true, but the thing is, NOBO...

Re: Continuation of Discussion Under Cam Newton

I intentionally omitted Grange because the Bears ran the T. Pollard was a wing back. Nice call on Conzelman - I'd add him to my list - may have led the league in both rushing and passing yardage one year which has never been done. I'm actually not a big Nevers fan because he doesn't meet my "u...

Re: Continuation of Discussion Under Cam Newton

Coincidentally, today's article at Football Perspective is comparing Spec Sanders and Lamar Jackson. http://www.footballperspective.com/lamar-jackson-and-spec-sanders/ I was expecting to see more era-adjusted Sanders vs. Jackson comparative analysis in that, it being Football Perspective. The graph...

Re: Rumor are just that, so take with grain of salt

Millner seems almost like the voters were trying to answer the question, "Who was Sammy Baugh throwing all those yards to anyways? There has to be someone...", and they came up with him, even though there was really no answer; Baugh was actually very self-sufficient and never produced a nu...
