When did the '85 Bears "begin" and "end"?

How would you identify the Bears' championship window of the '80s? Having experienced the Packers of the '90s, it's pretty clear that their rise was kicked off with the arrival of Wolf, Holmgren, and Favre in '92. They won their one Super Bowl, and their window closed after Holmgren left and Reggie ...

The Legend of Brett Favre

I've been thinking about hero worship of professional athletes and what drives it. As a Wisconsinite, I can say Wisconsin fans have always loved their athletes, but I can think of no larger love affair than the one Packers fans had with Brett Favre. Obviously he's had (and has) off-the-field issues,...

Re: How would you rank odd / unusual seasons?

’99, ’00, & ’01 can each be considered “unusual” in that there were now 31 teams in the league with the re-addition of Cleveland. Every single week someone had a bye. Six teams in the AFC Central which, looking back, I actually didn’t mind at all! Of course, in ’01, the games were delayed due t...

Re: Historical list of transactions?

I think there's a site called Pro Sports Transactions. Pro Football Reference has transactions going back to 1994 or so. Both of these sites may be incomplete. Depends what you are looking for, regular season or pre-season. Trades, players moving on or off inactive lists. Pre-season rosters would b...

Re: Historical list of transactions?

In the case of the three players you mention, the archives of the Green Bay Press-Gazette turned up nothing about when they signed with the Packers, and if the P-G didn't report it, it's likely that nobody did. That was the route I was taking before I decided to ask for help on here, and you're rig...

Historical list of transactions?

I'm throwing up a longshot, but I wanted to see what might come back. Does anyone here know of any online resources or databases that have tracked NFL transactions on a daily basis going back in time? I've found random web pages, like this from the Associated Press, but haven't found a page where yo...

Re: The Sporting News

Does anyone know of any online archives that have issues of The Sporting News? I'd love to be able to check out their Pro Football Yearbook issues from the '80s and '90s. Go to Archive.org and search Sporting News. Also, Newspaperarchive.com has old issues under the state of Missouri and the city S...
