Re: Eagles at Falcons NFCCG, 1980

Yes the NFC Championship game was a great day. The Eagle loss to Atlanta did hurt, 20 to 17 at the Vet in Dec. Had the Eagles won that game, they could have played the final game at Dallas just like an exhibition. As it was, if they lost the game by 25 points or less, they would have first place in ...

1991 Eagles in Detail

In prior writing, we have talked about how great the Philadelphia Defense was in the subject year. Had Randall Cunningham avoided the ACL in the season's first game, it's certain their record would have been 12-4 rather than 10-6. Nobody was going to overtake the 14-2 Washington Redskins. Neverthele...

Eagles defeat Giants 33 to 25

Sometimes I think the Eagles like to make things difficult for themselves for no reason. They were leading the Giants 20 to 3 and receiving the second half kickoff. Two receivers banged into each other with one in front and the Giants recovered the fumble. To say the least this was improbable . The ...

Missing Miles Sanders

The Cowboys and 49ers have destroyed the Eagles the past two weeks. These two losses meant the better team won. What gives me much more heartburn is the earlier 20 to 14 game with the Jets. I am surprised is that nobody is mentioning the loss of Miles Sanders and what he meant to this team. His loss...

Re: Packers/Steelers history

In 1963, the Steelers went to Green Bay. Pittsburgh was 4-2-1 to 6-1 for Green Bay. The Packers won 33 to 14 but the game was closer than the score indicated. Gary Ballman returned the opening kickoff 93 yards to the Packer two. Dick Hoak moved sideways, pivoted right, and easily went into the End Z...

Re: Philadelphia Eagles in 1988

Reference to Jets Victory over the Giants. The Giants lost to the Jets on the final game of the season 27 to 21. That win, together with the Eagles defeating Dallas, gave Philadelphia a Wild Card place in the NFC East. The Giants were 12-4 one game better than the 11-5 Eagles. However, the Eagles de...

Re: Two games involving winless teams

In 1962, the Rams and Vikings met with both teams at 0-6. Minnesota won easily 38 to 14. The following week the Vikings defeated the Eagles 31 to 21. Later on, the Vikings and Rams played to a tie at 20. For the season, Los Angeles was 1-12-1, Minnesota was 2-11-1, and the Eagles were 3-10-1.

Tom Brookshier RIP

Eagles' fans were saddened  in January 2010 with the death of a Philadelphia icon-Tom Brookshier.  I suggest reading his biography on the internet to get the story of his life.   I can only add my personal observations.   Mr. Brookshier  broke his leg in the 8th game of the 1961 season.    It was a ...
