Re: Hypothetical post merger Playoff Bowls

Thanks again SeahawksFever for an interesting post ... Hypothetical SB Matchups/Playoff Bowls Two ... I feel in an early 2003 SB, the Titans would have beaten the Eagles who didn't have quality wide receivers. I felt the 2008 Ravens were stronger than the Eagles, even with a rookie QB and would hav...

Re: Hypothetical post merger Playoff Bowls

Like 74_75_78_79 stated, an interesting list of matchups that could have been SB matchups, rather than playing in a losers bowl. I don't believe the Cowboys without Calvin Hill could have beaten the Raiders in early 1974 however ... I don't believe the Jets would have beaten the Cowboys in early 19...

Re: Michael Strahan- Did he only make the HOF because of his storybook ending?

Strahan also is credited with the most tackles for a loss in 2001, 2003, and 2005 according to pro football reference. TFLs are dubious in a lot of ways because of how they keep them. They only count solo tackles, lead tackles -- that's one. Two, if you force a fumble you don't get credit for a TFL...

Hypothetical post merger Playoff Bowls

Hi All, Something I thought of in my free time: The Playoff Bowl. As many of you are probably aware, it was played in the 1960's and was between the teams that finished third and fourth in the standings in the NFL. One thought I had was what if the playoff bowl was hypothetically played every season...

Re: Were 10-6 49ers of '91 as good as record indicated?

Why were Merton Hanks and Ken Norton Jr. not good in your opinion? And out of curiosity, since you said the media had a bias in favor of that team, was Dana Stubblefield any good? (he won the defensive player of the year in 1997) Hanks was a showboat who got a lot of fluky INT's, wore a bandanna, a...

Re: Were 10-6 49ers of '91 as good as record indicated?

No knock on Deion at all, but I find that interesting. They went from having the 1994 defensive player of the year in Sanders to having two players who received votes for the award in 1995 in Merton Hanks and Ken Norton Jr. Hanks and Norton weren't good players. They got votes because the media had...

Re: Best Teams To Miss The Playoffs

I love to cite teams from the old days, but in this case I don't think teams from 1965 and earlier should be considered, because "making the playoffs" back then meant playing in the championship game, and that's not the same thing. I do think the 1967 Colts belong on this list, and almost...

Re: Michael Strahan- Did he only make the HOF because of his storybook ending?

IMHO, He was the Joe Namath of defensive players- only made the HOF because he played in NY, had one gaudy outlier of a season (Namath's 4000 yard season, Strahan's sack record) and had an all time SB upset. If they lose to DAL/GB or even that SB and he retires without a ring.... are we sure he's i...

Re: Teams that benefited from the 2002 realignment

I've opined this a few times already my always wishing that each conference would have stayed at three divisions apiece (whilst, of course, having never added an extra playoff team per conference in 2020). And keep the Colts, Hawks, Cards, and Bucs with their division foes regardless of geography w...

Re: Were 10-6 49ers of '91 as good as record indicated?

I don't think the 49ers were as good as their record in 91, but that was true in several other 90's seasons as well, like 1990, 92, 93, 94, 96, 97, and 98. Those teams have more flaws than people give them credit for because people were brainwashed by the 9er-loving media that their players were th...
