Predicitons for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2016

Post by HBGFBFAN »

What is everyone's predicitons for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's class of 2016. I have Brett Farve, Orlando Pace, Marvin Harrison, Kevin Green and either Kurt Warner or Tony Dungy probably will be Dungy. Contributor I would like to see Eddie DeBartolo, George Young or Art McNally. Seniors I would like to see Jerry Kramer, Johnny Robinson, LC Greenwood or Chuck Howley.

What I think the voters will do:
Brett Favre, Orlando Pace, Kevin Greene, Tony Dungy and John Lynch.
Ken Stabler and Chuck Howley
Paul Tagliabue

What I'd like to see (within the current voting structure, not necessarily what I would do):
Brett Favre, Sterling Sharpe, Orlando Pace, Terrell Davis and Marvin Harrison.
Kenny Easley and (Johnny Robinson/Chuck Howley)
Steve Sabol

The voters will probably choose Pace, Favre, Harrison, Greene, and Dungy. Which would be fine with me.

No idea who they'll pick for Senior or Contributor slots. We'll find out soon enough on the former, anyway.

Hope they don't choose Ken Stabler for one of the Senior slots since:

-I think Ken Anderson is more deserving at QB, and Stabler being nominated will delay him further.

-I'm not sure how deserving Stabler really is.

I think so. The voters will make it a Packers/Rams day. Here's who I think they'll let in 2016:

Favre, Kramer, Pace, Warner, Dungy, McNally

I doubt Kramer will be a Senior finalist anytime soon given the large number of players with fewer (or in many cases no) times as finalists and Dave Robinson being elected recently.

He can be considered to have had four great seasons in a 5-season span and then maybe 1979 could be considered another really good season. If he retired in let's say January 1980, would he be in the Hall of Fame already? Yes, because he would be like a QB version of Gale Sayers. The problem with Stabler is his 1978 performance and his Houston and New Orleans seasons were not special.

There was an extensive thread on Stabler's HOF candidacy on the old forum. I think Stabler is a borderline worthy candidate, but his omission is not outrageous. And I sort of hate the idea that his candidacy gains momentum because of his death.
He's sort of the opposite of Gale Sayers. Instead of his career ending early, it started late. Stabler didn't become a starter until he was 27, so he had a short prime. His knee injuries and off the field lifestyle prevented him from remaining effective in his mid 30's.
