Leo Riggs, Eagles 1946 1st round draft choice

Post by Jay Z »

Leo Riggs was drafted #1 by the Eagles in 1946 but never played pro ball. This wasn't all that unusual at the time (three others in the 10 team draft - Doc Blanchard, Bill Dellastatious, and Cal Rossi) also never played.

However, Riggs is a player I can find almost nothing about. He received a fair amount of attention for his high school exploits in the L.A. area, then starred for the 1942 Trojan freshman team. Then he went into the Navy for three years. That made him eligible for the 1946 draft, though he returned to USC for his first varsity season. After that season as a backup QB, he apparently dropped out of school, but returned in the fall of 1947 for a shot at halfback. At that point, he seems to have disappeared from public life.

Anyone here know anything about Leo Riggs?
