have to accept that voters can ignore the historical record of a player's "resume" for
lack of a better word and have to allow the "testimony" thing take a bigger role

With Carmichael, we know his numbers, okay---and he know his honors (never consensus)
but was All-Pro once and second-team a couple of times. Let's say
he's "above the line" in 1973, 1974, 77-80 but he's not far above the line
as in consensus All-Pro. That does set or lower the bar

The stories will be "he's 6-8 and was dominate from 1973-82" and was this and that
but "no one could cover him" and "he changed the game" and "he was the FIRST big
WR that you saw dominate in the 1990s-2000s. That kind of thing.

ANd maybe some is true, though I would doubt some of that, it just means
the door is wide open for any 1-time All-Pro that a case can be made for.

People forget Tommy Nobis was just 1-time All-Pro and then 5-6
seasons "above the line".

If he gets in, re-read Carmichael.
Understood. Though am hoping that doesn’t mean Ed Sprinkle got in. He fits the “crappy honors and not amazing in film study” but good testimonial (via George Halas) profile also. If only 2-4 old-timers made it in, am really hoping they didn’t use one of the slots for Sprinkle. That would really stink.

Not too thrilled with where this may be headed, but we shall see.

With Hill, Covert and Carmichael making it as the first three, it does not give me hope that it will be an even split between older players and more modern ones. I hope they prove me wrong.

Sprinkle and Covert are disgracefully bad choices.

Carmichael and Hill are maybe okay, but not at the expense of several other guys who probably won't make it now.

Slater and Sabol they at least got right.

Yeah, this sucks rocks. Got a bad feeling none of Wistert, Speedie, Dilweg, Lewellen, or Emerson made it in. What a farce.

They still have five more seniors spots, but I think that Wistert has the best shot. It will still skew heavy towards recent players.

These are at least reasonable choices to varying degrees. Very surprised Dillon got through, but he's deserving.

Saw a list leak out that Speedie, Harris, Tags and Young are the remaining people.
