I remember Carl Garrett. He predicted he would be 1969 AFL Rookie of the Year over O.J. Simpson and he was.

In 1971, when Duane Thomas held out during Cowboys training camp, Dallas traded him to the Patriots for Carl Garrett. After a few days in the Patriot training camp, Thomas wore out his welcome, earlier than he usually did. Whereupon Tex Schramm got Pete Rozelle to rescind the trade, Thomas back to Dallas and Garrett to New England.

During his few days at the Dallas camp, Garrett said something like, "I can run behind a great line here in Dallas which I didn't have before." Garrett (according to Jim Plunkett's book) had some explaining to teammates when he came back to New England.

Probably my favorite player in league history who's career ended before I was born.
