Something of a football-connected death: Al Silverman, who wrote (with Gale Sayers) the book, "I Am Third," which supposedly was the spark to make "Brian's Song," has died:

He briefly held the NFL record for most rushing yards in a game with 247 in 1971. Orenthal James broke it less than two years later.

I remember seeing the game in which Willie Ellison ran for 247 yards on TV.

This is Mike Cofer the former LB with the Lions, not Mike Cofer the kicker with the 49ers. His son, Phil, was a basketball player for Florida State who was notified of his father's passing after his team won their opening game in the NCAA hoops tournament:

I'm seeing unconfirmed reports on Facebook that Anthony "Champ" Dickerson died earlier today. He was LB for the Cowboys from 1980-84. Also played in the CFL and for the Bills (1985). I'll post a link to an obituary as soon as I can find one.
